Lum Kastrati, MD, PhD Research Fellow

Lum Kastrati, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist with a particular interest on meta-research evaluations of real-world evidence- specifically of observational Target Trial Emulations. He joined the group in 2025, following a postdoctoral position and clinical training at the University Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition (UDEM), INSELSPITAL – Bern University Hospital, with a focus on cardiovascular disease risk prediction modelling and causal inference. He earned his PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Bern, where his research focused on the development and validation of diagnostic and prognostic models, systematic reviews and meta-analyses on women’s health . He was also a clinical fellow at UDEM- INSELSPITAL involved in designing and conducting randomized clinical trials on type 1 diabetes technologies. Lum also completed a research stay at Stanford University’s METRICS group, where he focused on meta-research, particularly the evaluation of evidence from mega-trials and methodological practices in subgroup analyses.
